Zahri Josita Jackson is a filmmaker, actor, and storyteller, who explores the intersections of loneliness, flawed female protagonists, and Black woman- and girlhood.
I am a recent alumna of New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, where I earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Film & Television. As the former Media Production Director and Co-Director of Content forTEAM Mag, I organized photo shoots, connected with young, up-and-coming artists and major brands, exercised my photography and videography skills, and digitally curated the showcasing of Black, Brown, and Queer art. I'm proud that my work at TEAM has led to partnerships with organizations and brands such as Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, acne-positive skincare brand, Starface, and sustainable clothing brands, Parade, CHNGE, and Girlfriend Collective. During my time as Media Production Director, TEAM was mentioned in GUCCI's Chime for Change zine, Teen Vogue, Vogue, and L’officiel Hommes Italia.
Additionally, my previous work as a Research and Development Intern at the woman-of-color-led production company, Culture.House Media series like Disney+'s Growing Up and Netflix's Ladies First, and Production Assistant at Paramount+ on series like Yellowjackets and The Chi has given my love of spotlighting underrepresented voices a professional and mainstream context.
My commitment to artist citizenship has awarded me recognition by the Gucci Changemakers Scholarship Program, the Black Film Space x Nice Shoes Post-production Grant, the KOSINIMA Short Film Grant, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia Citizenship Award, and the District of Columbia Office of the Attorney General Right Direction Award. The Greater Washington Urban League has also acknowledged me with their largest scholarship award, the Charlotte Elizabeth Yancy Eights Scholarship, and NYU Tisch's Office of Career Development with the Ulrich-Stewart Family Funded Internship Award.
